We hope one of these suggestions will appeal to your tastes, draw you to our concert, and enrich your life through both music and travel.

Each of you can no doubt already think of many reasons to visit Pasadena. Here are some offbeat experiences related specifically to Beethoven and music.

This week we focus on music—all sorts of music. Saturday, June 1, 2013 falls on World Music Weekend, when over 300 cities around the world celebrate musical diversity.

In Pasadena the festival is Make Music Pasadena, the largest FREE musical festival in California. <http://www.makemusicpasadena.org> From 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. you can choose from over 100 free concerts on four main stages and 15 smaller venues: Acoustic, Alternative, Folk, Dance/DJ, Electronic, Hip-Hop/Rap, Jam Band, Reggae, Rock, R&B, Singer/Songwriter, Soul, Urban, World.

The world Chorale Bel Canto offers is the early 19th century in Germany and Austria, the world of Franz Joseph Haydn and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, the world at the beginning of the Romantic period in music.

The Mass in C came early in Beethoven’s career, and was dedicated to Haydn’s patron, Prince Esterhazy. Beethoven was still finding his voice, but it is a beautiful setting for the Mass, and departs from the usual “Viennese-style” of Mozart and Haydn by casting each of the five sections of the Mass into large scale, continuous symphonic movements. In the Choral Fantasy we hear the seeds of the Ninth Symphony and the miraculously moving “Ode to Joy.”

We invite you to attend a FREE rehearsal as part of the Make Music Pasadena festival. Drop into FUMC on Colorado Boulevard at 3:00 p.m. and watch the singers and orchestra prepare. We also invite you to return for our ticketed concert at 4:00 p.m. Call for tickets at the above numbers or visit our web site.

Listen to Cults, Ben L’Oncle Soul, Chain Gang of 1974, then listen to Chorale Bel Canto!

We’d love to see you there!
