Music from many times and places dealing with the mystique and majesty of the sea, rivers, lakes, and rain.  Captivating choral music by Monteverdi, Samuel Barber, Ralph Vaughan Williams, and Eric Whitacre, as well as folk songs and spirituals.

Merry Christmas with Chorale Bel Canto

December 10, 2016 - 4:00 & 7:30pm
East Whittier Methodist Church

Featuring Navidad Nuestra, a folk drama based on the rhythms and traditions of Hispanic America, created by poet Felix Luna and composer Ariel Ramirez, for chorus, soloists, guitar, harpsichord, and Latin percussion. Traditional songs and carols of the season will round out the program.
With fiesta food between concerts!

How the Reformation Changed Music:
A 500 Year Perspective

March 18, 2017 - 4:00pm
First Friends Church, Whittier

A concert and conversation with music from five centuries and live program comments.  Songs, hymns, and motets inspired by the work of Martin Luther.  We will examine the many genres and textures of the early Reformation (1517) up to the time of J.S. Bach and beyond.

Liberty Community Plaza, Whittier

Musical snapshots of American popular music from Stephen Foster to the present day. Songwriters such as Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, Duke Ellington, George Gershwin, Kandler and Ebb, Stephen Sondheim and Billy Joel will be represented.
With refreshments available and after-concert dancing!

Calling New Singers!

Auditions are open for CBC's 35th Season! We are looking for qualified new singers to join our ranks. Feel free to forward this announcement to any interested singers.

About Us
Chorale Bel Canto is a volunteer regional master chorale with a four-concert season that runs roughly from Labor Day to Memorial Day.  We rehearse on Monday evenings in Whittier.  Annual membership dues are $75, waived for full-time students.  Members are responsible for purchase of some music and concert attire.

The Audition
  • Vocalization to assess range and tonal color
  • Tonal memory exercises
  • Simple sight reading
  • A prepared song is optional

Auditions are by appointment.

Thank you  to those who joined us or supported our season finale!

CBC closed its 34th season on May 14 with the glorious Five Mystical Songs of Vaughan Williams and the sublime Mozart Requiem. A well-attended art exhibit featuring works on mystical themes attracted concertgoers before and after the performance.  And, the event finished with a lovely reception enjoyed by all.

Would you like to attend the concert but would rather not drive to Pasadena?
Let us help!
Courtesy of Supervisor Don Knabe, we are able to offer
free bus service from Whittier to the Pasadena venue on Saturday, May 14.


Pick up is at 1:30 pm
First Friends Church
13205 Philadelphia
Whittier, CA 90601

The bus will be on Washington Avenue, at the side courtyard of the church.
Patrons taking the bus may park in the Church lot that is accessed from the alley between Washington and Friends. Then walk across the alley and into the courtyard of the church.
 

The bus will depart from Pasadena at 7:00 p.m.,
arriving in Whittier at approximately 7:45 p.m.


The schedule will allow time for you to enjoy the art exhibit prior to the concert, the concert itself at 4:00pm, and a season finale reception after the concert.

Visit the art exhibit on mystical themes in Fellowship Hall
